They were running free across the field. And the light was becoming subtler as the sun was setting. But they didn’t care.
She laid on the grass, legs shivering with exhaustion. He followed.
They were taking in breaths every two seconds. Their hearts were acclimating to their sudden break in motion.
She closed her eyes, trying to calm her body down. He looked at her, trying to figure out what was going through her mind.
“Are you okay? You said you wanted to get away.”, he questioned, curiousity building up.
“Yes, I’m alright.”, she gave in one breath.
“Are you going to tell me what the hell is going on?”, he replied.
“I don’t want to talk about it. I’m trying to…”, she interrupted and sighed deeply.
“What?”, he asked, with an impatient tone.
“I’m just trying to free myself.”, she whispered.
“But you are free, Veronica.”, he stated. “Just look around you.”
She opened her eyes and gazed. And then, she demanded: “What is it you want me to see?”
“Is anyone keeping you here? Is anyone holding you against the ground? Is anyone stopping you?”, he inquired.
“No.”, she said, smiling like a kid that got the correct answer in class.
“Wrong. The answer is “Yes”. And why? Because there’s a person doing exactly that. You.”, he remarked. “You have to stop thinking there’s someone else preventing you from being your truest self. Because it’s obviously a lie.”
She stared blankly at him, for a while and then, she exclaimed: “Let’s run away!”
He simply added, to conclude: “To nowhere we go.”
